{Black Friday Chronicles} Part 2: Target

Target

Target is my Happy Place.  But it also gets me in trouble.  Lots of trouble.

This year, in an effort to try to curb my spending I relegated myself (and my wallet) to two or three things on Black Friday and minimal trips to Target.  No more random kitchen appliances, towels, useless gadgets and so on.  You have no idea how much of that stuff I’ve bought and returned or worse yet, never opened.  For the first time ever, I really did stop to think hard about what I want versus what I need, and what I can buy some other time.

That said, for a long time I have been talking about getting a fitness tracker.  I figured Black Friday was a great time to get one. I researched, ranked, researched and ranked again the Fitbit Flex edged out the Nike+ Fuelband ever so slightly because I found a Black Friday deal at Target.  Sometimes life is about saving a few bucks and that’s how decisions are made.  The Nike Fuelband SE was $150 and the Fitbit Flex was $99 with a $20 gift card.  Easy decision.

I’m no Black Friday virgin, so I knew that what I was looking for was a good deal, but I highly doubted people were going to be knocking themselves over for it.  So I hedged my bets and went to Target around 8:45 PM, parked at the back of the parking lot and hiked in.  I would know my Target blindfolded so I waded through the crowds and walked directly over to where the Fitbits were.  Still a few there as I thought.  I walked around for a few more minutes and then abruptly reminded myself “random” was not on my shopping list this year and proceeded to ask where the end of the line was.  It was at that point I discovered that the line wrapped around the perimeter of the store and the wait was approximately 2.5 hours.  Umm NO.

So I did what any savvy shopper would do….I hid my stuff in an area I knew no one would go on Black Friday the lunch box section.  Clearly thats NOT a doorbuster or hot item that everyone has to have this year!

I left, went back home watched some TV and at 11:30 PM headed back out and picked up my Fitbit right where I left it behind the pink lunch bags and checked out.  It was a good idea that I hid it because when I got back they were all gone….eeek!

I was in and out in about 6 minutes, it was glorious! I’m quite pleased with my Black Friday deal!  I’m even more proud of myself for finding something that’s going to keep me on the track to healthy!  Stay tuned for my review and updates on using it.

And the journey continues….one deal at a time!
